In Iowa, 1 in 10 households spend half or more of their income on housing, leaving little income to afford food, healthcare, and other basic necessities. With more than 17 million severely cost-burdened households in the U.S., advocating and offering home affordability and stability for homeowners and renters is as important as ever.
Heart of Iowa Habitat for Humanity has an opportunity to address this problem head-on by giving our partner families a safe, decent and affordable place to live eliminating the burden of uncertainty, stress, and fear associated with shelter.
Heart of Iowa Habitat for Humanity’s serving Greene County will be holding a soup luncheon fundraiser Sunday, Dec. 12, from 11 am to 1 pm at First United Methodist Church, Jefferson
The luncheon will be free will donation and include soup (chili, or chicken noodle), vegetables and a dessert. The meal will be carry-out only at the covered south entrance to the church (E. Madison St). The proceeds will assist Habitat in providing critical home repairs through Habitat’s Helping Hands home repair program.
The soup luncheon is a great opportunity to celebrate Habitat and its volunteers’ accomplishments during this challenging time. With the support of our local donors and the Greene County Community Foundation, Habitat hopes to achieve its vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live.
This year there will also be an online pie auction. Some of the best bakers in the county are donating pies for the auction. To bid on one or more of these delicious pies find the link to the pie auction on our website heartofiowahabitat.org. The auction will close at 1 pm on Sunday, Dec. 12.
Persons who are unable to attend the lunch but want to support the mission can donate online at heartofiowahabitat.org or by mail to Heart of Iowa Habitat for Humanity, 114 S. Chestnut St., Jefferson, IA 50129.
